Former A Level student, Sarah, has gone on to achieve some impressive things in her education since her time at Christ the King. Sarah took A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology. Now studying Adult Nursing BSc with a study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology and plans to eventually become a Matron and more, Sarah took time out of her busy schedule to talk to our Alumni Team about her journey.
Her time at Christ the King
“Other than the friends for life I gained, I was incredibly lucky to have a wonderful form tutor who really made an impact on me and always encouraged me to do my best,” said Sarah. “CTK fostered a community of acceptance and talent in so many forms.”
Life at University and overcoming adversity
“I initially studied Medicine however after becoming the victim of a crime, I found myself stuck in a rut and had to leave my course,” said Sarah. “After a gap year, I eventually plucked up the courage, moved up north and started a new degree which I’ve found so much more rewarding and more suited to me.
“Don’t be too disheartened if you get knocked back. There’s always something to build on,” she advised.
On her highlights of university so far, she said: “There are way too many to count, but in particular being published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology for my work in the development of psychedelic drugs for use in clinical mood disorders was a highlight!”
“The most rewarding thing about what I do is being able to spend time with people in the final moments of their lives!”
Her plans for the future
“My plan for after university is to stay busy and keep my fingers in lots of different pies in terms of my clinical skills and specialities,” said Sarah.
“I will be in either A&E or Theatre nursing and working my way up to Matron. I would be too bored on a ward! In my spare time I want to nurse in the Army Reserves and play a part in developing local Sexual Assault Referral Centres in my capacity as a nurse.”
Thank you so much for your time, Sarah!
